Johnson Matthey

Flame spray pyrolysis is versatile one-step process to producing nanoparticles and can be used to make metal, metal oxide and more complex nanoparticle materials. Johnson Matthey has specialised in using the technique to make metallic nanoparticle catalysts and has developed considerable in-house expertise in this area. This knowledge is also transferable into other application areas.
Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network
The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (Nanotechnology KTN) advances the effective exploitation and commercialisation of Micro- and Nano- Technologies (MNT) by promoting knowledge exchange, facilitating innovation, encouraging supply chain collaborations and providing thought leadership.

Nanoscape AG
NanoScape develops and produces highly porous, nanoscale, aluminosilicate (NanoZeolite) materials. Pore sizes range from 3A to 100A with particle sizes typically around 100nm. Materials are supplied in powder form (with hydrophilic or organically modified surfaces) or as suspensions (in aqueous and organic solvents). Current development focuses on CleanTech applications, such as: additives for water purification membranes; air filters; catalysts; and adsorbers for dehumidification systems, heat pumps and heat recovery systems. Printed Electronics
Steve eventually finished being a student at Sheffield University with degrees in Mathematics, Statistics and Computing; BSc, MSc and PhD chemistry and specialised in mass spectrometry. He was on the academic staff at Sheffield until 1974 and became a consultant in analytical chemistry and set up Manchester Circuits in 1976. MCL was purchased by Forward Group plc in 1996 and subsequently by Viasystems Inc in 1997. He was European Director of Research and Development for Viasystems until its closure in 2001.
He has had an interest in digital printing for a number of years and has given many papers on both laser and inkjet printing methods. More recently has set up Printed Electronics Ltd which has two facilities in Cambridge: the first is an inkjet development laboratory which is equipped with state of the art inkjet printing using a wide variety of binary and greyscale inkjet heads for the development of inkjet printed electronics (and other) processes; the second is an inkjet ink characterisation laboratory to determine the properties of functional nano-particulate inks and investigate their non-Newtonian behaviour in high shear rate printing.

Teer Coatings Ltd
Closed Field UnBalanced Magnetron Sputter Ion Plating (CFUBMSIP) is an enabling physical vapour deposition (PVD) technology which has many potential applications in nanotechnology. The process enables accurate nanometric control of coating structure and composition.
TCL′s equipment is ideally suited to prepare multilayers using constant reactive deposition conditions and the ability to continually rotate substrates past multiple targets, enabling sequential deposition of layers of different composition. Using this method it is also easy to produce high quality optical materials, e.g. multilayer filter stacks.
TCL′s unique in-house barrel coating facilities offer an all over uniform service for particulates and small items without the requirement for parts to be fixtured before coating. A wide range of coatings, with controllable thickness in the range 10nm and 1000nm, can be deposited, onto powder sizes of 1µm and upwards (typically 100µm). A research project is currently underway to further develop the process for coating of nanoparticles.

NETZSCH-Mastermix Ltd. is a world leading machine manufacturer. We design and manufacture equipment for mechanically producing nanoparticles by 2 distinct processes: comminution (the breaking down of primary particles) or the dispersing of agglomerated nano structured materials.

National Physical Laboratory
